SYSTEM / 01-06

Six moves.
One direction.

Showing the route for photography & film.

  1. 01BRIEFUSAGE / LICENCE

Find out what the images are for.

Where they run, how long, and who else may use them. Usage sets the licence, and the licence sets the shoot, so this is the first question rather than a line in the invoice.

    Tools
    • Intake call
    • Usage and licence scope
    • Reference review
    Output

A written brief naming the deliverables and their use.

  2. 02DIRECTSHOT LIST / LOOK

Decide what the pictures look like.

Subject, framing, light and treatment are chosen before the day, as a shot list rather than a mood board. This is the step that separates a publishable set from a lot of frames.

    Tools
    • Art direction
    • Shot list
    • Lighting plan
    Output

An approved shot list and visual direction.

  3. 03PREPAREACCESS / CALL SHEET

Clear the day before it starts.

Location, access, permissions, power, timing and light. Anything needing someone else to say yes gets that yes in writing first, because a shoot day is the one step that cannot be run again cheaply.

    Tools
    • Location scout
    • Access and permissions
    • Call sheet
    Output

A confirmed date with access and permissions in writing.

  4. 04CAPTURESHOOT / ON LOCATION

Shoot the list, then shoot past it.

The agreed frames are covered first so the brief is met no matter what the day does. What is left goes on the material the list could not predict.

    Tools
    • Photography
    • Lighting
    • Motion capture
    Output

A covered shot list, backed up on the day.

  5. 05EDITSELECT / GRADE

    Select hard, then finish.

A selection is cut to the frames that earn their place, then colour, retouching and grading are taken to final. The set is treated as one series, not as separate good pictures.

    Tools
    • Selection
    • Colour and retouching
    • Grade
    Output

A finished set, consistent across the series.

  6. 06DELIVERFILES / LICENCE

Hand over files you can use.

Masters plus the crops and formats the agreed usage actually needs, with the licence written down. If the images are going into a site Elya is building, they arrive as part of that build rather than as a folder.

    Tools
    • Master files
    • Formats and crops
    • Written licence
    Output

Delivered files and a licence stating what you may do with them.
